This Privacy Policy describes how GPS Toolkit (“the App”) handles your data.
In short: we do not collect your data. The App runs entirely on your device, with no account and no backend.
1. What we collect — nothing on our servers
GPS Toolkit does not operate any server, account, or backend. We do not collect, transmit, or store any personal data, GPS readings, usage statistics, or analytics on our infrastructure.
There is no sign-up, no login, and no cloud sync.
2. Data used locally on your device
The App needs the following to function:
2.1 Location data
- Source: your device’s GPS / GNSS sensors (via Apple Core Location on iOS and Android Location Services on Android).
- Used for: displaying your position, speed, distance, altitude, heading, and signal quality in real time; recording tracks you choose to start; computing distances and bearings to waypoints.
- Storage: location readings are processed in memory. They are persisted only when you explicitly save a waypoint, start a track recording, or enable the rolling LiveTrack journal. All storage is local to your device — never transmitted to any server.
- Permission: you can revoke location access at any time in your OS settings. The App will then stop computing any location-derived value. Background location access is requested only if you start a track recording with the background mode enabled.
2.2 Barometric pressure and compass data
If your device has a barometer or magnetometer, the App reads these sensors locally to compute barometric altitude and a true-north compass heading. These readings are processed in memory and are never transmitted.
2.3 Waypoints, tracks, and LiveTrack journal
When you save a waypoint, record a track, or enable the LiveTrack rolling journal, the corresponding data (coordinates, timestamps, optional name and notes) is stored in a local SQLite database on your device. You can view, edit, delete, export, or back up this data from the App at any time.
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it (GPX/KML file share) or back it up to a file location of your choice.
2.4 App preferences
Settings such as units (km/h vs mph, meters vs feet, etc.), coordinate format (DMS, UTM, MGRS, etc.), map style, display language, proximity alert configuration, and similar choices are stored locally on the device. They are never transmitted.
3. What we do not do
- No user accounts, no sign-up, no login.
- No cloud sync, no backup to our servers.
- No analytics SDK (no Firebase Analytics, no Amplitude, no Mixpanel, etc.).
- No crash-reporting service (no Crashlytics, no Sentry, etc.).
- No advertising SDK, no advertising identifiers, no advertising at all in v1.0.
- No third-party trackers.
- No cookies (it is a native app).
- No in-app purchases in v1.0.
- No location data ever leaves your device.
4. Third parties
The App relies on a small number of operating-system services and content providers, each governed by their own policies (not by Twixtech):
- Apple Core Location / Android Location Services — provide GPS access. Governed by Apple’s and Google’s privacy policies.
- Apple Maps (MapKit) on iOS — used to render the map view when the Apple Maps engine is selected. Governed by Apple’s privacy policy.
- OpenStreetMap tile servers — used to render the map view when the OpenStreetMap engine is selected. Tile requests are made over HTTPS and include only the standard map tile coordinates (no user identifier). Governed by the OpenStreetMap Foundation‘s tile usage policy.
The App does not embed any other third-party SDK that processes your personal data.
5. Exporting and sharing your data
The App lets you export waypoints and tracks as GPX or KML files. By design, these files contain coordinates in plain text — that is the nature of the format. When you share an exported file (via your device’s system share sheet, e.g. email, AirDrop, messaging), the recipient and the channel you choose may store or transmit those coordinates. Twixtech has no visibility or control over what happens to the file once you share it.
The full-database backup feature similarly produces a local file containing all your waypoints, tracks, LiveTrack history, and settings. You control where this file is stored and with whom it is shared.
6. Children
The App does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children. It is suitable for users of any age, subject to your platform’s age guidelines.
7. Your rights (GDPR / equivalent regulations)
Because we do not collect your personal data, most rights granted by the EU General Data Protection Regulation (access, rectification, erasure, portability, restriction, objection) are de facto satisfied: there is no data on our side to access, rectify, erase, or port. The only data exists on your device and is under your sole control — you can export it from the App, edit or delete individual items, or wipe everything by uninstalling the App.
If you nonetheless contact us with a privacy request, we will reply within 30 days.
8. Support emails
If you contact support@twixtech.com, your email address and message content are processed by our email provider for the sole purpose of replying to you. We do not use this data for marketing and we do not share it with third parties.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. The updated version will be published at the same URL with a new effective date. Material changes will be highlighted in the App’s release notes. Future versions of the App may introduce optional, opt-in features (such as anonymized usage analytics or a freemium model with advertising) — if and when that happens, this Privacy Policy will be revised accordingly before those features ship, and your explicit consent will be requested where required by law.
